Nottinghamshire breathe again as Vereynne century seals survival

Victory against Warwickshire not out of question on spinning surface

With Lancashire all out for 177 in Worcester, both Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire became safe from relegation just before 5pm on the third day of their Vitality County Championship match at Trent Bridge. But a good batting surface is just beginning to take spin and, if the main issue is resolved, this game could yet see a result should rain stay away on Sunday.Nottinghamshire eventually posted 487 after Kyle Verreynne, their South Africa Test wicketkeeper, sped to a first century in England en route to an unbeaten 148 from just 167 balls. Warwickshire, needing 338 to avoid the follow on, finished 344 behind at 143 for 4. Sam Hain will resume on a determined 59.Only 155 overs remained in the match, and 15 would fall foul of bad light, when the visitors finally gained their chance to enjoy what seeemed a distinctly benevolent pitch. Yet both openers very soon departed and, after a recovery to 105 for 2, Farhan Ahmed, spinning the ball away, removed two left-handers in three balls before the premature close 14 overs later. Will Rhodes, who had passed 1000 runs for the first time in his career, lost off stump for 37 as Ahmed beat the outside edge and Dan Mousley arrived to be LBW for a second-ball duck. In the same over the 16-year old, who now has 21 wickets in six innings since debut, had required lengthy attention after being hit on the left arm by his captain’s full-blooded shy at the non-striker’s stumps.Warwickshire’s start earlier, could hardly have been worse. Rob Yates, working to leg, sent a leading edge to second slip as Brett Hutton began the reply with a wicket maiden and Alex Davies played on to Jacob Duffy for five when trying to remove his bat.Things were calmer by the time the September shadows closed in, with Ed Barnard supporting Hain, both right-handers finding life marginally easier against Ahmed and judiciously employing the sweep. The preliminary to play in the morning was a presentation to Luke Fletcher in acknowledgement of the local favourite’s departure after 17 seasons with Nottinghamshire. The tall, massively built “Bulwell Bomber”, who had turned 36 ten days earlier, would have been glad to escape bowling on this flat pitch.Warwickshire did manage a wicket after 40 minutes following Nottinghamshire’s resumption on 324 for 6 when Rob Lord, whipping across the line, was LBW for 31 as Olly Hannon-Dalby notched his landmark 50th success of the season for a third successive campaign.Runs were already flowing, however, and the 70 that took Notts to 400 and their fourth batting point required only 14 overs. By the time an eighth man fell, just 22 balls remained for the visitors to search, in vain, for a last bowling point.Off-spinner Yates, with his second ball of the day, and eighth of the match, had Hutton smartly stumped for 29 when he advanced, missed and raised his back foot but Ahmed, the teenager at the very other end of the spectrum to Fletcher, joined Verreyyne to deny them.He finally cut Yates to backward point for ten from what became the last ball before lunch, taken at 440 for 9 with Verreyyne on 130, and the innings closed when Duffy charged Mousley, the eighth bowler employed, to be stumped by a mile for 29.

Hughes now wants Liverpool to sign "exciting" Rodrygo alternative

Whilst Liverpool have found themselves linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo in recent weeks, sporting director Richard Hughes reportedly wants the Reds to sign a recent treble winner instead.

Ekitike "ready" for Premier League step

Although Liverpool are not done on the transfer front, Hugo Ekitiké represents a significant standout in an impressive list of incomings.

Alongside Florian Wirtz, the Frenchman has arrived for big money from the Bundesliga to take the Reds’ spending close to the £300m-mark. The pressure will be on after sealing a move worth £69m, with £10m in potential add-ons, but Ekitike is ready to take the Premier League step.

The talented striker told Liverpool’s official website: “I think that was the right moment. I came to the Bundesliga hungry, I wanted to show that I’m a good player and I can make the difference on the pitch.

“I think I did well last season. Now, I feel ready to make a bigger step and to play on the highest level, to improve myself, to see what I can do. That’s why I think it’s the right timing for me and the perfect moment to come here.”

The new arrival has been straight into action and has already met his new teammates on Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Hong Kong. Alongside the rest of the fresh faces in Arne Slot’s squad, Ekitike will now be desperate to hit the ground running.

Back in Merseyside, meanwhile, Liverpool may not be done with incomings. Following the news that Alexander Isak has asked to leave Newcastle United, Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on signing the Swede in a package that could cost as much as £250m, including agents fees and wages.

Bigger loss than Diaz or Nunez: Barcelona charge into race for £70k-p/w Liverpool star

The Reds could lose a key man.

ByTom Cunningham Jul 26, 2025

Then, the Reds could turn their focus towards replacing Luis Diaz if he leaves for Bayern Munich. And Hughes already has his preferred option in mind to do exactly that.

Hughes now wants Bradley Barcola instead of Rodrygo

As reported by ESPN, Hughes now wants Liverpool to sign Bradley Barcola, who’d come as an alternative to Rodrygo, but the transfer chief also understands that any deal to welcome the Paris Saint-Germain star is unlikely to take place this summer.

The Frenchman has just won the treble at PSG and played his part in their first-ever Champions League success. As such, both luring him away from the Parc des Princes and negotiating a deal with PSG will likely prove to be a tough challenge ahead of next season.

The one factor which could leave the door ajar for the Reds to come swooping in, however, is the amount of competition for places in Barcola’s way in Paris. The 22-year-old must compete for a spot against Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, whilst Diaz’s potentially vacant role could be awaiting him at Anfield.

It’s clear to see why Hughes wants Barcola over Rodrygo, given how impressive the Frenchman was at PSG last season. A player who scout Jacek Kulig described as “exciting”, Barcola would thrive at Anfield.

Their answer to Rice: Spurs considering move to sign "sensational" £47m CM

Given Tottenham Hotspur’s lowly Premier League finish of 15th place last season, investment is massively needed from the hierarchy during the off-season.

Thomas Frank has been appointed as the Lilywhites’ new boss this summer and has been tasked with the job of transforming their fortunes within England’s top-flight.

Owner Daniel Levy has previously stated his desire to build the club into title contenders, but if he is to see the club at the top of the table, he will need to put his hand in his pocket.

Tottenham Hotspur managerThomasFrankcelebrates after the match

Whilst Mohammed Kudus has already made the move to North London, further additions are to be expected with various areas of the pitch needing investment.

Numerous players have been on their radar in recent weeks, leaving the recruitment team to make the right choice as to who would be the right fit for Frank’s side.

The latest on Spurs’ hunt for new additions this summer

Morgan Gibbs-White is a player who looked set on a move to join Spurs after they triggered the £60m release clause within his contract at Nottingham Forest.

However, the Reds have blocked any move, subsequently claiming that the Lilywhites have made an illegal approach for the England international’s signature.

Nottingham Forest's MorganGibbs-Whitereacts

He’s not the only player who’s been in their sights over recent days, with Bayern Munich talent Joao Palhinha a player of interest, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports journalist claimed that Frank’s side have been showing interest in the 30-year-old star, but no concrete offer has yet been made for his services.

He also states that his agent is aware of the interest in his signature, looking almost certain to depart the Bundesliga side after making just six starts last season after joining in a £47m deal from
Fulham.

Why Spurs’ latest target would be their answer to Rice

Declan Rice has been one of the Premier League’s leading midfield talents over recent years, but unfortunately for Spurs fans, he’s been plying his trade for North London rivals Arsenal.

The 26-year-old cost a staggering £105m back in the summer of 2023, a figure that to this day remains the highest fee paid for an Englishman in the history of football.

He’s proved his worth despite the mammoth transfer fee, registering 35 combined goals and assists for the Gunners in the last two seasons – a simply staggering feat for a deep-lying midfielder.

Spurs fans must wish they had their own version of the England international, but they could be about to land just that with a move for Palhinha during the current window.

The Bayern star has been labelled as a similar player to Rice by FBref, showcasing how highly rated his, despite his lack of action in Germany in recent months.

Bayern Munich's Joao Palhinha in action against Bayer Leverksen.

When comparing the pair’s respective stats, the Portuguese international has managed to outperform him in key areas, potentially making him the missing piece in Frank’s midfield puzzle.

Palhinha, who’s been labelled “sensational” by former footballer Steve Sidwell, completed more of the passes he attempted, whilst finding more of his teammates in the final third – having the tools to add further creativity to the side.

His dominance without the ball is just as impressive, winning more tackles and making more blocks, adding the needed defensive presence needed within the Lilywhites’ midfield.

The former Fulham star has been just as dominant in the air as he has on the ground, winning more of the aerial battles he’s entered, potentially adding an added threat in the opposition’s penalty area.

It’s unclear if a deal for Palhinha would be a temporary or permanent addition, but it’s evident that his addition to the side would be a sensational piece of business.

Should he move and match the levels produced by Rice in England’s top-flight, it would be one of the signings of the window, helping Frank in his quest for success in North London.

£27m ace agrees personal terms to leave Arsenal; it'll free up room for Eze

The last couple of weeks have been highly unusual from an Arsenal perspective.

While fans have grown accustomed to the club dragging their feet in the transfer window, they’ve seen the Gunners sign Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi, while also getting closer to the statement signing of Viktor Gyokeres.

Furthermore, the Premier League runners-up have also been heavily linked with more attackers, such as the incredibly exciting Eberechi Eze, who has a £68m release clause in his contract.

Crystal Palace's EberechiEzeposes with the player of the match trophy

The England international would undoubtedly be an excellent addition to the Gunners’ squad, but one that might require an exit.

Why Arsenal want to sign Eze

Eze has been one of the most exciting players to watch in the Premier League for some time now, and was even linked with Arsenal last summer.

However, if he was impressive in years past, he reached an entirely new level and was utterly sensational for Palace last season.

For example, despite playing for a mid-table side, the Englishman managed to rack up a tally of 14 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.72 games.

Moreover, he didn’t just score the third goal in a comfortable win, or a consolation goal in a hefty defeat; he bagged important, game-changing goals, such as the only goal in the club’s FA Cup triumph.

In addition to being an output machine, the former QPR gem would also provide Mikel Arteta with more tactical flexibility, as while he thrives in attacking midfield, he’s more than capable of doing a job out on the left.

Finally, as he grows in importance for the national side, he’d be able to form a closer partnership with Bukayo Saka at club and international level were he to join Arsenal, which can only be a good thing.

With all that said, bringing in another top-class attacker like Eze would be expensive and could lead to changes being made in the squad.

What Eze's arrival would mean for Arsenal

If Gyokeres is also signed this summer, which looks increasingly likely, then it seems unlikely that Arsenal would also add Eze without then making a sale.

Eberechi Eze for Crystal Palace.

After all, the Gunners have never been a side that hoards talent or likes to maintain massive payrolls.

So that leaves the question? Who would be the one to make way for the Englishman?

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Well, it obviously wouldn’t be Saka, Gabriel Jesus is out injured, Kai Havertz is a clear favourite of Arteta, and Ethan Nwaneri is currently in talks for a new deal.

That leaves Gabriel Martinelli and £27m signing Leandro Trossard, and with reports now clarifying that Al Nassr are not looking to sign the former, it might be time for the latter to leave the Emirates.

That seems to be an opinion shared by the Belgian himself, as, according to recent reports from Turkey, Süper Lig side Fenerbahçe are now willing to meet his financial demands for a possible transfer.

The report claims that now the Turkish giants have agreed to the winger’s demands, they have offered Arsenal a fee of €15m, which is about £13m.

It seems likely that the Gunners will reject such an offer, but as it is just the first, there is every chance that a final, agreeable price will be reached.

Moreover, it may be what is best for all parties, as the former Brighton & Hove Albion star’s exit could allow the club to sign Eze, and based on their respective form last season, that would be a big upgrade for Arteta and Co.

For example, the “sensational” Belgian ace, as dubbed by journalist Charles Watts, produced 20 goal involvements in 56 appearances, totalling 3455 minutes, which comes out to a goal involvement every 2.8 games, or every 172.75 minutes.

In contrast, the Eagles’ ace averaged a goal involvement every 132.12 minutes.

Ultimately, Trossard has been a great player for Arsenal, but if his departure helps the club sign Eze, then the club should do what they can to facilitate it.

Better than Ndiaye: Everton in talks to sign "magnificent" £43m star

One cannot often learn much from pre-season results, but Everton’s need for reinforcements has certainly been crystallised.

On Saturday, the Toffees were demolished 3-0 by Bournemouth at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, outplayed and outclassed throughout.

Before travelling to the US, the Blues had also lost 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers and been held to a 1-1 draw by Accrington Stanley, which isn’t really generating excitement ahead of the grand opening of their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Speaking to the Men in Blazers Podcast, manager David Moyes asserted that he needs “nine or ten” new players before the season begins, so are Everton about to secure the signature of a “magnificent prospect”?

Everton's search for attacking quality

So far this summer, there’s been a bit of a clear-out at Everton.

Goodison stalwarts Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucouré are the most high-profile players to have departed, but Ashley Young, Mason Holgate, Asmir Begović, and João Virgínia have all also been released.

In their place, Mark Travers will be the new back-up goalkeeper, while centre-forward Thierno Barry has arrived from Villarreal for £27m, and is the service the 6 foot 5 in (196cm) striker will receive about to exponentially increase in quality?

Villarreal's Thierno Barry

Well, according to a report by Patrick Boyland and Matt Woosnam of the Athletic, Everton are “in talks” with Lyon as they seek to sign winger Malick Fofana.

Despite having been spared relegation to Ligue 2 following an appeal, Olympique Lyonnais are still in a huge amount of debt, so are currently in the midst of a fire sale; Rayan Cherki, Lucas Perri, Alexandre Lacazette and Thiago Almada are amongst those who’ve departed already.

With that in mind, Alan Myers claims that les Gones value Fofana, who has three years remaining on his contract, at around £43m including add-ons, amid talk that there is “strong interest” from the Toffees in the player.

So, could the 20-year-old soon swap Décines-Charpieu for Merseyside?

How Malick Fofana will improve Everton

Fofana began his career at Gent, scoring just five goals in 64 senior appearances for the Buffalos, but doing enough to capture the attention of Lyon, who signed him for around £15m as recently as January 2024.

Since making the move to France, his career has really taken off, bagging 15 goals and seven assists for les Gones, earning widespread praise.

Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout labels him a “magnificent winger prospect”, while Astorre S. Cerebróne of Breaking the Lines believes he has ‘huge potential’, impressed by his ‘technical qualities’ and ‘directness’.

Elsewhere, Fintan O’Reilly of Total Football Analysis agrees, highlighting his ‘strong attacking contributions’, concluding that, given Lyon’s financial turmoil, he would represent a massive bargain in the transfer market.

In terms of Everton, Iliman Ndiaye was their top-scorer last season with nine goals, while Beto was the only other player to bag more than four.

Everton star Iliman Ndiaye

Like Fofana, the Senegalese international arrived from Ligue 1 just 12 months ago, joining from Olympique de Marseille for a reported fee of £16.9m.

If Fofana is equally as productive and impactful as Ndiaye, Evertonians would almost certainly be satisfied, so let’s assess how the two wide players compare to one another.

As the table outlines, in Ligue 1 and the Europa League, Fofana comes out on top for pretty much every metric included; Ndiaye boasted better figures in terms of shots per 90 as well as successful take-ons.

Lyon's Malick Fofana

Nevertheless, Fofana’s numbers in terms of shots on target ratio, chances created and pure goals and assists are very eye-catching, underlining that his signing would represent a massive coup for Everton, one that they badly need with the start of the season fast approaching.

Jackson upgrade: Man Utd discussing bid to sign "one of Europe's best CFs"

Manchester United failed to deliver last season, but INEOS and Ruben Amorim are doing all the right things this summer as they disassemble and rebuild a struggling squad.

The anticipated exodus has not been so much a flow of exits as a trickle, however. But Marcus Rashford is set to sign for Barcelona and Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho are all anticipated to complete moves away in the coming weeks too.

With Bryan Mbeumo finally set to sign for the Old Trafford side in a £71m total package, fans can start to get excited by a new-look frontline that already contains Matheus Cunha, who left Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign for the Red Devils earlier this summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' MatheusCunhacelebrates after Rodrigo Gomes scores

However, there’s something missing, and no mistake. It’s the front of the ship: Man United need a striker.

Man Utd's search for a striker

Man United wanted Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres earlier in the transfer window, but the pursuit of both came to nought. Such is the market, especially when you have no European football to offer.

However, the Red Devils attracted both Cunha and Mbeumo despite tempting offers elsewhere, and they have now compiled a new shortlist, with Benjamin Sesko and Nicolas Jackson both mooted.

However, Amorim might be convinced to target instead Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, who, at 29, is older but also more experienced and accomplished in the English game. It’s alleged by reported Ben Jacobs that United are discussing a potential move for the forward.

Arsenal have also shown a vested interest in the Three Lions star over the past year, and he is expected to command a price tag of around £60m, although United technical director Jason Wilcox will be sure to try and whittle this down.

Why Man Utd should sign Ollie Watkins

Watkins is established as one of the most reliable goal scorers in the Premier League. In fact, he’s been described as “one of the best centre-forwards in Europe” by podcaster Rohan Jivan.

Athletic and powerful, Watkins is able to play through the lines and use his sharpness to assist teammates as well as strike on goal himself, creating an overall sense of fluency that could be perfect for a United side welcoming Cunha and Mbeumo to the fold.

But, more to the point, Watkins could be a fantastic deal, one that should be pursued over the likes of Chelsea’s Jackson, who is available this summer but for a lofty price of £70m.

Jackson, 24, is a talented centre-forward. Like Watkins, he’s mobile, ranking across Europe’s top five leagues among the top 17% of strikers for progressive carries per 90, as per FBref.

However, he’s still a work in progress, having missed 43 big chances across his two seasons in the Premier League, as per Sofascore, but having only scored 24 goals.

Nicolas Jackson

Watkins, across that same period, has missed 49 big chances, although he’s scored 35 goals. It’s clear that Man United need instantaneous results next term, and Watkins could be the man to achieve the desired effect.

Jackson, however, is more of a mixed bag, and given that he would cost more than Watkins, one of the Premier League’s leading strikers, INEOS must show off their savvy approach by picking the shrewder option.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny 'a feasible option' for Welsh Fire investment

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny, the Hollywood actors and co-owners of Wrexham AFC, have been in contact with Glamorgan about the prospect of buying a stake in Welsh Fire, the Cardiff-based team in the Hundred.Reynolds and McElhenny, who took ownership of Wrexham in November 2020, have witnessed back-to-back promotions in 2022-23 and 2023-24, with the club now playing in the third tier of English football. The pair are believed to be considering further investment in Welsh sport. The ECB formally started the process for securing private investment in the Hundred earlier this month. Raine, the American investment bank, has distributed prospectuses to interested parties and Vikram Banerjee, who is leading the process as the ECB’s director of business operations, said there has been a “phenomenal level of interest from a diverse mix of investors”.Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan’s home ground, has the smallest capacity of any venue in the Hundred, and Welsh Fire are expected to be the cheapest franchise with an estimated valuation of around £30 million. Revenue from initial investments will be distributed across the counties but Glamorgan will be handed a 51% stake in Welsh Fire which they can control.Related

Glamorgan have spoken to a number of different interested parties over the past few months, with the owners of Pakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans understood to be among them. But there has been particular intrigue around the prospect of Reynolds and McElhenny buying a stake which Dan Cherry, the club’s chief executive, believes is “an exciting proposition”.Cherry told ESPNcricinfo: “It is a feasible option. Contact’s been made. There’s not been anything substantial come back yet, but we’re in the process and I know that they’ll certainly be included in any process that we’ve got going forward. All bids and offers that are going to come in are going to be interesting to us, and we’re going to have to evaluate what the best bid is for us.”There’s obvious interest in what Ryan Reynolds and the guys have done at Wrexham, which has been fantastic for football in North Wales. That doesn’t necessarily mean to say that it’ll be the right option for us, but if they’re interested in talking to us, obviously it’s an exciting proposition.”The majority of IPL franchises are expected to bid for stakes in Hundred teams, though the ECB are reluctant to replicate the SA20’s ownership model where every team is IPL-owned. Private equity firms CVC and RedBird Capital are also understood to have an interest in the sale process, though Ineos – who have invested heavily across sports, including latterly Manchester United – are unlikely to bid.Glamorgan believe that the Fire’s relatively low valuation – the London-based franchises could be worth four times more – makes them an attractive investment, given the costs across the Hundred are relatively similar with a salary cap in place and that the majority of revenue will come from an even split of central broadcast money.”We just see the great opportunity here to be part of a nation, not only being great value,” Cherry said. “You’d be representing Wales: Cardiff is a fast-growing city with major events happening here all the time at Principality Stadium, the Castle, and Cardiff City Stadium. It’s a great place to invest, and we believe we’ve got something different to all of the other venues.Welsh Fire’s women reached the Hundred final for the first time this year•ECB/Getty Images

“We are really proud of the fact that we are the only Welsh first-class county, and that we are hosting England matches here at Sophia Gardens is important to us. Ultimately, that is something which, when we talk to a potential partner or investor, will be something really important to us: maintaining our Welsh interest, heritage and history.”Cherry said that Glamorgan are “very open-minded” and will not rush into a deal. As things stand, they intend to retain their 51% stake in Welsh Fire. “We want to make the right decision for the club and the game: we want to find the right partner, the right investor that’s going to improve what we do and support us along the journey – not take over.”We are keen to build a partnership where people can add value to us as a club… whether it be on the cricket side, around players and coaches and sharing academies, or more on the commercial side. We’re looking for a true partner that can add value – not looking to lose control and sell our soul, as some people would have it.”Glamorgan have had a mixed first year under Grant Bradburn as head coach, with their season resting on Sunday’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup final against Somerset. But Cherry, in his first full season as chief executive, believes the club’s financial position has improved to the point where they can continue to grow the sport in Wales and achieve more of their on-field aims.”It’s pretty well documented that we probably haven’t achieved what we would’ve liked to on the field over the last 15-20 years,” he said. “We haven’t produced players to play for England and we spent all of that time in Division Two. The opportunity to be part of the group of people that can hopefully change that is really exciting.”We’ve had to work through some of the challenges around our finances and the debt profile, but we’re in a much stronger position now financially to be able to now put all of our efforts into trying to improve the cricket side of things. That’s going to be a big focus for me in this role in the coming years.”

Bangladesh made one change to their Test squad for the upcoming tour of India from their historic 2-0 series win in Pakistan, with uncapped batter Jaker Ali replacing fast bowler Shoriful Islam. Shoriful had suffered a groin injury during the first Test against Pakistan, and did not play the second.Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed make up Bangladesh’s pace attack in Shoriful’s absence.Yet to play a Test and ODI, Jaker has represented Bangladesh in 17 T20Is since making his debut at the Asian Games in 2023. He has played 49 first-class games, and averages 41.47 with four centuries.Selector Hannan Sarkar said that it was Shoriful’s groin injury that kept him out of the side, and the extra batter was included keeping in mind the Indian conditions.”Shoriful isn’t 100 per cent fit for Test matches. He would be required to bowl 15-20 overs so we didn’t want to take a risk,” Sarkar said. “Shoriful missed the second Test against Pakistan due to his injury. The physios and trainers are looking after him. He remains within the system. He is an important member of our white-ball team. We have a T20 series coming up against India.”Jaker’s recent good form, which included a 174 against Pakistan A in Islamabad, helped his cause. He was picked ahead of Shahadat Hossain, who has been Bangladesh’s go-to middle-order batter in the recent past in the absence of Shakib Al Hasan or Mushfiqur Rahim.ESPNcricinfo Ltd

“We picked Jaker Ali as a middle-order batter. We considered the conditions and opponents for this decision. We had taken five pacers in Pakistan, but we are taking four to India,” Sarkar said. “We had taken Dipu [Shahadat Hossain] in place of Shakib or Mushfiqur previously. I wouldn’t say he played really well, but he also didn’t do badly.”We have taken into account recent performance. Dipu played four-day matches in Australia and Pakistan. He isn’t in rhythm. His form is very important when he is going to play international matches. Dipu is part of our future plans. He is now preparing to play in the NCL.”Jaker can be a useful player in the longer version if you consider his record in domestic first-class cricket. He played a splendid innings in Pakistan recently, batting for a long time. This is what kept Jaker a step ahead.”Opening batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who missed the Pakistan Tests due to a groin niggle suffered during the four-day games between Pakistan A and Bangladesh A in the lead-up to the Test series, retains his place in the squad. However, Shadman Islam’s impressive showing in the first Test in Rawalpindi could see him keep his spot at the top alongside Zakir Hasan. The first Test against India begins on September 19 in Chennai, with the second one from September 27 onwards in Kanpur. Both games are part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, where India are currently placed on top, while Bangladesh are at No. 4 on the points table.Bangladesh squad for India TestsNajmul Hossain Shanto (capt), Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Jaker Ali, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Taijul Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Nayeem Hasan, Khaled Ahmed
