Arsenal are making serious moves behind-the-scenes as new sporting director Andrea Berta looks to make a real impression on English shores, with the 53-year-old thought to be closing in on another target.
Arsenal in advanced talks for player with 5-year deal "already agreed"
The north Londoners have made a significant transfer stride.

The Gunners confirmed Kepa Arrizabalaga’s arrival in N5 earlier this week.
The now-ex-Chelsea goalkeeper comes in as Berta’s first official signing since he replaced Edu in late March, but Kepa is widely expected to be followed by Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who could even be announced as a new Arsenal player on Thursday (Team News and Ticks).

After agreeing a deal for Brentford captain Christian Norgaard recently, which could reach up to £15 million, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano now says that all the necessary paperwork has been exchanged for his transfer to the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta and co will ideally welcome the signing of Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera as well, as talks remain ongoing with the La Liga side in an attempt to strike their fourth deal of the window. Valencia did attempt to offer the 21-year-old a new contract to ward Arsenal off, but he’s apparently determined to join Arteta’s side.
Cristhian Mosquera for Valencia.
“Cristhian Mosquera’s plan remains clear: he wants to join Arsenal project despite new contract proposal from Valencia,” said Romano on X.
“Full focus on negotiations with #AFC as personal terms are agreed, and new bid will be needed after opening one for €14m, rejected.”
Berta has many plates spinning right now, with Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze also firmly on their radar.
Arsenal talks with Eberechi Eze "well advanced"
Earlier this week, it was reported that Arsenal held “positive” talks with Eze’s representatives last weekend, and like Mosquera, he’s pretty keen on the idea of joining.
Now, according to French newspaper L’Equipe, Arsenal’s negotiations with Eze are “well advanced”, and all that is really left to do is trigger the England international’s release clause to strike a full agreement.
This comes after “further moves” in “recent hours”, as the outlet reported on Wednesday afternoon, so it appears Berta and co have upped the ante in their pursuit since their weekend discussions.
It is worth noting that Palace have no intention of accepting an offer lower than Eze’s £68m clause, with Arsenal told the exact price needed to make the 27-year-old their next major signing.
Senegal's Habib Diarra in action against England's Eberechi Eze.
It is currently unclear what the ex-QPR star is demanding in terms of salary, with Eze on a reported £100,000-per-week in south London right now, but it could end up being quite a costly operation overall.
However, after his best-ever season at Palace with 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, there is little denying he’d seriously upgrade Arteta’s squad.
“His journey has been unique,” said pundit Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports.
“He’s had disappointments in his academy life, released from clubs, found a new journey and a different pathway for himself. He’s got to this level and now he’s an England international.
“This kid, no disrespect to Palace, could go on and play for one of the top teams. He’s got that individual brilliance; he’s got the awareness when he’s dribbling to keep his head up and bring others into play. I speak to other players that play against him, and they say he’s such an elusive player, unpredictable in the way that he carries the ball, but also [his strength].”
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin seems like he might leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.
After a 239-game stint with the Toffees, he seems set to depart after failing to agree upon a new contract. West Ham United are seemingly ready to pounce, with Football Transfers reporting that they have made contact over a summer move.
With 57 Everton goals to his name in the Premier League, there is no doubt Calvert-Lewin made a real name for himself during his time at Goodison Park. However, he fell well short of Romelu Lukaku’s tally for the Toffees, and it feels like they are yet to find an attacker who can dazzle just as he did in Merseyside.
Ex-Everton forward Romelu Lukaku.
Well, that could all change this summer, if transfer rumours into the club are to be believed.
Everton’s exciting attacking target
The Toffees have certainly struggled to find an attacker who can get anywhere near the quality Lukaku brought to the club. This is not a slight on other players, but praise to their all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League.
Maybe Jack Grealish can be the man to fill Lukaku’s shoes from a quality point of view. A recent report from The Telegraph suggests Tottenham Hotspur ‘will not enter the race’ for the attacker, and Scudetto winners Napoli ‘will not match’ his wage demands, thus making the Toffees one of the favourites to sign him should they follow up on their recent interest.
Manchester City's JackGrealishduring the warm up before the match
On the 11th June, Football Insider broke the news that Grealish ‘favours a move to Everton’ over another rival club, Newcastle United.
However, wage demands would be an issue, and any move for the Manchester City attacker would ‘need to be a loan deal’ this summer, particularly as he has a £50m price tag.
Why Grealish would be a good signing for Everton
The 2024/25 season has obviously not been what Grealish might have hoped for at the Etihad Stadium.
He played just 32 games, scoring and assisting eight times, and failed to make City’s Club World Cup squad.
Manchester City's JackGrealishon the substitutes bench
Yet, Grealish is an “inevitable” footballer, according to Statman Dave, and players like that always come good. His talent was on show for all to see as a City player in previous campaigns, including the famous treble-winning season of 2022/23, where he played 50 games and contributed to 16 goals, creating a whopping 94 chances across the season, as per Sofascore.

On top of that, let’s not forget the impact the England international had at Villa Park, for his boyhood club, Aston Villa. He played 213 games for the West Midlands side, scoring 32 goals and grabbing 43 assists, numbers that promoted a remarkable £100m move.
His goal away to Manchester United, when he was still donning the Claret and Blue of the Villans, showed exactly what he can do. Arguably his best goal for the club, Grealish picked up a loose ball on the left-hand corner of the box, before cutting inside and bending an effort into the far corner.
Moments like that are strong evidence for how Grealish can become Everton’s best attacker since Lukaku. Not necessarily in the same vein of goalscoring form, of course. After all, the Belgian legend is their all-time Premier League top scorer, with 68 strikes, whereas Grealish’s game is more well-rounded.
He certainly has the ability to change a game, like the 32-year-old, who bagged 87 goals for the Toffees in 166 games. Described as “the complete striker” by former boss Roberto Martinez, he was often a catalyst to their success.
That is what Grealish can replicate in an Everton shirt. Like Lukaku, he has that maverick instinct, someone who can flip a game on its head and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. That has been on show countless times for City and Villa.
Although this might only be a temporary deal, signing Grealish would surely be a fantastic piece of business for the Merseyside club.
The excitement and dynamism he would bring could certainly replicate what Lukaku brought to the table. The 29-year-old could, without doubt, be their best attacker since the legendary Belgian.

Building on good work by Ed Barnard and Will Rhodes, Burgess is 126 not out against Somerset
ECB Reporters Network30-Jun-2024Michael Burgess hit his seventh first class century to cement a determined Warwickshire fightback on the opening day of the Vitality County Championship Division One match with Somerset at Taunton.Going in at No. 8, the 29-year-old wicketkeeper made an unbeaten 126, off 167 balls, with 14 fours and three sixes, to build on the good work of Ed Barnard (92) and skipper Will Rhodes (63) after their side had slumped to 40 for 4 on losing the toss.Chris Woakes contributed 39 to an eighth-wicket stand of 110 with Burgess that enabled Warwickshire to close on 373 for 8. Migael Pretorius was the pick of Somerset’s bowling attack with 4 for 72 from 20 overs.Josh Davey made the first breakthrough with the Warwickshire total on 19 as Alex Davies edged a defensive push to Tom Abell at first slip in the fifth over.It was 34 for 2 when Rob Yates, on 15, nicked a lifter from Pretorius and Kasey Aldridge accepted a sharp chance at second slip. The South African struck again in his next over with an excellent delivery that clipped the top of off stump to send back Sam Hain for a duck.Warwickshire were in a deep hole at 40 when the inspired Pretorius induced Dan Mousley to edge an attempted leg-side shot to give Aldridge another slip catch at which point the seamer’s figures were 3 for 6.Rhodes survived a couple of scares before lunch, which was taken at 97 for 4, the skipper having made 42 and added 57 with Barnard, who was unbeaten on 25.The afternoon session saw Rhodes move to fifty off 87 balls, with seven fours, and the partnership with the unflappable Barnard extend past the century mark before Somerset struck two blows in rapid succession.Jack Leach, preferred to Shoaib Bashir as the only specialist spinner in the side, tempted Rhodes into an error as an ugly mishit saw him cloth a gentle catch to Andy Umeed at mid-on. The following over saw Craig Overton force a defensive edge from Jacob Bethell through to wicketkeeper James Rew.Barnard remained a solid presence, having moved to a chanceless half-century off 94 balls, with eight fours. He was unbeaten on 79 at tea, sensibly picking the right balls to attack, and had helped his side to 214 for 6, with the help of Burgess, on 33 not out.Somerset began the final session with the occasional leg-spin of Umeed, who was quickly dispatched for six by Burgess over a short leg-side boundary. It proved a solitary over as Leach changed ends to good effect.Burgess moved to an impressive fifty off 87 balls, with five fours and a six, but Barnard fell unexpectedly with the stand on 99 as the England left-arm spinner bowled him attempting to cut a slightly quicker delivery.Barnard had faced 159 balls and struck 12 fours on the ground where he claimed his best Championship bowling figures of 6 for 37 (11 for 89 in match) for Worcestershire in 2018.A Burgess single of Leach took Warwickshire to a first batting point at 250 for 7. As the time for the second new ball approached, Burgess went on the attack, launching Leach for two sixes over long-on.It was 291 for 7 when the new ball was taken, with Burgess and Woakes looking well set. Woakes brought up 300 with a glorious cover driven four off Overton as Somerset’s bowling lacked the accuracy of the pre-lunch session.Burgess went to three figures with a straight drive for two off Overton, having faced 146 balls and hit 10 fours and three sixes. The pitch was offering precious little seam movement as he and Woakes batted with increasing comfort and aggression.Woakes suffered a couple of painful blows, one to his right hand, but the England allrounder battled bravely through until chipping a catch to Umeed at mid-on to give Pretorius his fourth wicket. Michael Booth then survived a caught and bowled chance to Davey to increase Somerset frustration.
Leeds United have submitted an enquiry over a deal for a “world-class” player, who could push for a move to Elland Road within days, according to a report.
Leeds set sights on new midfielder
Leeds have already made major improvements to their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League next season, agreeing deals for centre-backs Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw and striker Lukas Nmecha, and they have now turned their attentions towards signing a new midfielder.
Daniel Farke appears to be particularly keen on bringing in an attack-minded midfielder, capable of providing a threat on the front foot, having identified a range of different targets from within the Championship and Ligue 1.

However, there is also a desire to bring in a more defensive option, with it recently being revealed the Whites are keen on signing Juventus defensive midfielder Douglas Luiz, having doing their “due diligence” on the Brazilian.
There has now been a new update on Leeds’ pursuit of Luiz, with a report from Italy (via MOT Leeds News), revealing they have now submitted an enquiry over a deal for the midfielder, who could push for a move to Elland Road within days.

Indeed, should the Serie A side be knocked out of the Club World Cup by Real Madrid on Tuesday evening, the maestro could seek a swift move away from Juventus, with his agents currently evaluating potential options.
There is a possibility that a deal could initially be a loan, including an obligation to buy, which may be on the expensive side, given that the 27-year-old arrived at Juventus for a fee of £42m just over a year ago.
"World-class" Luiz could be real coup for Leeds
The Brazil international has featured just once for Juventus at the Club World Cup, indicating he isn’t held in the highest regard by his current employers, but the central midfielder’s previous exploits in England indicate he could be a top-quality signing for Leeds.
The former Aston Villa man flourished during his time in the West Midlands, receiving very high praise from John McGinn, who described his former teammate as “world-class”.
Although most well-known as a defensive midfielder, the ex-Villa star proved himself as a real all-rounder during his stint at Villa Park, capable of making a real impact on the front foot.
As such, Leeds should not pass up the opportunity to sign Luiz, despite failing to kick on since moving to Juventus, and he could be a difference-maker in the battle for survival next season.
Regis Le Bris might well already be adored by Sunderland supporters for his promotion heroics up to the Premier League, but if he can now keep the Black Cats afloat in the top-flight, his legendary status on Wearside will be even more concrete.
This will be extremely difficult to pull off, considering the Frenchman has never managed a game in the intimidating division before, but the statement additions through the door at the Stadium of Light this summer so far will give him some confidence that safety can be unbelievably achieved.
Up next on the Sunderland transfer agenda looks to be ex-Arsenal warrior Granit Xhaka, with an ambitious move now reportedly being explored.
But, he isn’t a lone, exciting name on the Black Cats’ extensive shopping list, as contact has now been made to try and seal a deal for an up-and-coming striker to join Le Bris’ camp.
Sunderland make contact over deal for £34m star
Crazy amounts of money are being splashed by the Black Cats to try and make their survival dreams a reality, with £30m forked out on Habib Diarra last month, which made him the club’s record buy.
Xhaka would cost far less at around the £9m mark according to reports, but that record fee to land the former Strasbourg midfielder is just about surpassed when looking at the £34m price tag next to Sunderland’s other bold striker target.
A report from Graeme Bailey has revealed that Sunderland are in the race to land in-demand Real Madrid starlet Gonzalo Garcia this summer.
The Black Cats are joined in making contact with Madrid regarding a loan deal by fellow newly promoted Leeds United, alongside Brentford, and West Ham United.

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.
The LaLiga giants are currently deciding whether Garcia should remain with the side in 2024/25 before making a concrete decision on his future.
Why Garcia is a more exciting signing than Xhaka
Of course, Xhaka does have plenty of Premier League experience on his side that would be invaluable to Le Bris and Co trying to stay afloat.
But, with Sunderland’s reputation for being a haven for youngsters to explode into life even more becoming very well-known, signing Garcia on loan could go down as a more exciting signing than the Swiss enforcer joining the Stadium of Light ranks, particularly if his golden form in front of goal at the Club World Cup translates over well to the hustle and bustle of the Premier League.
Before delving deeper into Garcia’s heroics for Los Blancos, Xhaka didn’t always experience the smoothest ride in the Premier League with Arsenal, before moving on to Bayer Leverkusen.
Worryingly so for a team attempting to be competitive in every league clash they are in next season, Xhaka would be known for having a suspect record in terms of bookings in the elite division, culminating in a high tally of four red cards and 57 yellow cards being brandished to him over 225 top-flight outings.
Of course, he also fired home 17 strikes and picked up 24 assists for the Gunners as a fiery midfield character, but forking out £9m on Xhaka might not be deemed the most pressing move to make, considering £30m has already been splashed on the aforementioned Diarra centrally.
Whereas, every team that wants to keep their heads above water in the Premier League needs a potent forward line, but with Le Bris’ main option up top last season in Wilson Isidor, squandering a mammoth 20 big chances in league action.
Not everyone will be confident he can lead the line with venom, which is where Garcia might well come in to save the day.

Sunderland’s interest in Garcia must have been piqued somewhat by his blistering exploits at the Club World Cup, with the “world-class” striker – as he was dubbed by football journalist Zach Lowy for his clinical displays in America – going on to bag a sublime four strikes from six games in the pre-season tournament.
To bump up his reputation for being a goal machine even more, the 21-year-old has also amassed a hefty 30 goals back in his native Spain for the Real Madrid Castilla squad from only 78 contests, leading to football talent scout Jacek Kulig also labelling him as “incredible.”
Gonzalo Garcia in action for Real Madrid at the Club World Cup.
Whilst Xhaka might well be the safer pick here with his Premier League credentials, Sunderland could really show they mean business by landing one of Los Blancos’ biggest rising stars and turning him into even more of a menace in such a tough division.
On the contrary, the ex-Arsenal midfielder has perhaps had his moment in the top-flight spotlight already.

Brydon Carse returns from betting ban while Archie Vaughan makes first-class debut

Tom Abell made it back-to-back centuries at Taunton as Somerset ran up 395 for 6 on the opening day of their County Championship match against Durham.Having hit a career-best unbeaten 152 in the previous home game against Warwickshire, Abell scored 124 off 181 balls, with 18 fours, sharing a stand of 185 with Tom Banton (73), which was a record for Somerset’s fourth wicket against Durham. James Rew was unbeaten on 89 at the close, while there were two wickets each for Daniel Hogg and Callum Parkinson.Somerset gave a first-class debut to allrounder Archie Vaughan, the 18-year-old son of former England captain Michael Vaughan, following his impressive appearances in this season’s Metro Bank One Day Cup.Their captain Lewis Gregory returned after injury and won what looked an important toss, electing to bat first on a pitch expected to take spin. He then saw his team make the worst possible start as Andy Umeed edged the first ball of the match from Ben Raine straight to Ashton Turner at second slip.It was 25 for 2 when Tom Lammonby was hurried by a steeply rising ball from Hogg and could only fend a simple catch to Ben McKinney at midwicket. But Lewis Goldsworthy, promoted to open with Umeed, soon looked at ease and Abell appeared in excellent touch from the start of his innings. That was demonstrated by two sweetly-struck back-foot boundaries through the covers off the same Bas de Leede over as the pair took the score to 68 in the 16th over before Goldsworthy was caught behind for 38, edging a delivery from Brydon Carse, back after serving three months of a suspension for historical betting violations.Spin was introduced at 72 for 3 when Parkinson began operating from the River End. When George Drissell took over, Banton greeted him with a towering six over long-on and soon he and Abell had added 50 off 86 balls, taking the total to 120 for 3 at lunch. The partnership flourished in warm afternoon sunshine at Taunton, Abell going to a 92-ball half-century and Banton following to the same landmark off 73 deliveries, surviving one scare when a miscued pull shot off Carse landed between two converging fielders.Brydon Carse struck on his return from a three-month ban•Getty Images
Abell looked in total control, timing the ball well on both sides of the wicket. A pulled single off de Leede took him to three figures off 148 deliveries, with 16 fours, before a cut for two off Parkinson took the stand with Banton to 172, beating the previous Somerset record fourth-wicket partnership against Durham, the 170 put together by current club chief executive Jamie Cox and James Hildreth at Taunton in 2004.Just when it seemed the pair would bat through the afternoon session, Parkinson took a hand, dismissing both with turning deliveries, now bowling from the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion End. First Abell edged to Scott Borthwick at second slip and the left-arm spinner struck again in his next over, with Banton falling in identical fashion, having faced 129 balls and hit seven fours and a six.Somerset were 260 for 5 at tea. Vaughan scored his first Championship runs off the second ball of the final session with a leg glance off Parkinson and was soon sharing another profitable stand with Rew, who cleared the ropes over long-on off the same bowler.By the time the second new ball was taken after 80 overs, Rew, the senior partner at the age of 20, was on 42 and Vaughan 28, having added 66 together in rapid time. The teenager fell for 30 with the total on 328, lbw to a full delivery from Hogg, but could reflect on a more than handy debut knock.Rew tucked Raine off his legs for a boundary to reach a fluent fifty off 71 balls. It was the consistent left-hander’s third half century in his last six Championship innings, which also included two scores of 49.Soon he was striking Carse majestically through the off side for three boundaries in an over as Somerset finished the day on a high, Kasey Aldridge contributing 12 to an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 67.
With Thierno Barry on his way, Everton are already considering their next move and could reportedly look to sign a familiar face at a bargain price this summer.
Everton set to sign Thierno Barry
Just days after Dominic Calvert-Lewin announced his departure from the club, Everton are set to welcome his replacement. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Toffees have reached an agreement to sign a talented forward worth €35m (£30m) plus add-ons to beat other Premier League sides to his signature.
An impressive coup, Everton have not only replaced Calvert-Lewin but the argument could be made that they’ve landed an instant upgrade in Barry. The Villarreal star scored 19 goals in all competitions last season and is now ready to take the Premier League by storm.

What’s most impressive is just how clinical Barry was in La Liga last season – scoring 16 goals from 12.5 expected goals. Calvert-Lewin, meanwhile, was anything but clinical after underperforming in XG by over three goals.
For just £30m, all signs are pointing towards a top signing, but the Toffees are far from done on the transfer front. Ahead of a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Friedkin could yet reportedly move to sign the likes of Nicolas Tagliafico in a free deal as well as one other target that those around Merseyside already know well.
Everton considering Jack Harrison move
As reported by The Telegraph, Everton are now considering a move to sign Jack Harrison from Leeds United in a cut-price £7m deal. The winger spent the last two seasons on loan at the club and could now finally complete a permanent move to instantly reunite with David Moyes.
A permanent move to sign Harrison would certainly split opinions at Everton. The winger’s output never really stole the headlines during his two loan spells, in which he scored just five goals, but he could be a bargain worth chasing at just £7m.
Despite his poor record in front of goal, Moyes still took the time to praise Harrison when he got his name on the scoresheet for the first time, telling reporters: “I’m sure everybody knows his work rate is really high. He always does a good job for the team, but he’s got a lot to do. He’s still got a lot to improve on because we need more.
“One’s not enough for me, you know, we need [Harrison and Lindstrøm] to come up with more and more assists, but I’m pleased they got the goal tonight.”

At a crossroads this summer, Harrison should take hold of the chance to rejoin Everton if they come calling as the Toffees potentially land his signature at a bargain price.

Son is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract, which was initially set to expire this year, with chairman Daniel Levy activating the club’s option to extend it by an additional season.
This call has allowed the Lilywhites to make some money back off their captain’s potential sale before deadline day on September 1, and reliable media sources have reported that this is a very realistic possibility (The Telegraph) – 10 years after Spurs sealed one of the bargains of the century with Son’s £22 million signing from Bayer Leverkusen.

Following Son’s 173 goals and 101 assists over the span of 454 appearances in all competitions, Levy could even make a £28 million profit off the 32-year-old’s exit as Levy demands a fee of around £50 million to let him go (Football Asian).
If Tottenham manage to sell Son for double his original fee, this, combined with his profound impact on the field, would surely make him one of the club’s best-ever signings.

Thomas Frank would certainly need a replacement, though, and it is widely reported that the club are actively seeking a new winger.
Man City’s Jack Grealish, Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus are among Spurs’ reported targets, but they’ll all command premium fees in terms of transfer cost and potential wages.
All the aforementioned names boast proven top-level experience, and they’re exactly the calibre of player which Tottenham requires ahead of a campaign where they’ll be competing in the Champions League.
However, depending on the funds available, another astute option could be Red Bull Salzburg sensation Nene Dorgeles.
Nene Dorgeles refuses to rule out joining Tottenham
The Mali winger is currently at this summer’s Club World Cup, and will soon face-off against Real Madrid in Salzburg’s final group game.
Dorgeles is in the midst of an impressive campaign at Salzburg – bagging 15 goals and nine assists in all competitions – with reports suggesting he’d cost up to £21 million.
Tottenham are targeting Dorgeles this summer and have him on their list of wide options, with PSG and Arsenal also contending for the 22-year-old. That is according to Africa Foot, who also spoke with the international forward about his future.
Dorgeles states that, while the focus is currently on Salzburg, he refuses to rule out leaving Salzburg amid interest from N17.
“I’m coming off an interesting season, and that’s bound to attract interest from other clubs,” said Dorgeles.
“But for now, I’m staying focused on competing with my club since I’m still under contract. So I’m letting my agents take care of my contract situation, but I’m not closing any doors.”
