WHAT HAPPENED?
After being linked with a move to the Blues, the Women's Super League leaders announced the arrival of Walsh on a four-and-a-half-year deal. The 27-year-old said it was "unbelievable" to join the west London team, while explaining why moving on from Barca was the right call.

WHAT KEIRA WALSH SAID
She told Chelsea's website: "It’s unbelievable. I’m very happy to be here and very excited to get started. You look at the history of the trophies Chelsea have won and I’m an ambitious player and person, so for me, it is a good fit. Speaking to Paul Green, Sonia [Bompastor] and Camille [Abily], I just got such a good feeling from them. It has been really positive. I want to play for this club and fight for the badge."
Walsh added: "It was a massive motivator. I’ll be honest, I didn’t realise how difficult it would be to be away from my family and friends when I went abroad. It was such a quick transfer that I didn’t have time to process how I would be on my own. Sometimes, it was actually really difficult and I did struggle away from the pitch sometimes. This season was a bit easier because Ellie Roebuck came in and me and her have been such good friends for a long time. It’s no secret that I wanted to come and wanted to play closer to my friends and family. Just having my family back in the stands, it’s something I’ve just wanted for a long time. When I spoke to Chelsea, I knew that I wanted to come here."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
England international Walsh had two-and-a-half years at Barcelona, winning a whopping eight trophies in that period. But being away from her friends and family took its toll and now she has moved to another top team in Europe.

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a move for one £50 million Premier League player, and they could sign him in January after having a player-plus-cash bid rejected for him in the summer window.
Spurs targeting new forward and midfielder for Postecoglou

South Korean wonderkid Min-hyeok Yang is also preparing to join Tottenham in January after the club struck a buy-to-loan-back agreement for a teenage sensation tipped to bring real excitement to N17.
“At just 18, Yang brings incredible speed to the attack, running with youthful vigour,” said football analyst Joel Kim to The Boot Room (via TEAMtalk).

“His surprising physical strength allows him to dominate veteran defenders in the K-League 1, Asia’s most physical league. His greatest asset might be his adaptability; like Son Heung-min, Yang is two-footed and can play on either the left or right wing. Comparisons to Anthony Gordon and Federico Chiesa highlight his potential.”
However, despite their new additions totalling £125 million (including Lucas Bergvall), it remains the case that Levy and manager Ange Postecoglou wish to reinforce Tottenham’s ranks further – and potentially in the winter.
Reports this week suggest Spurs are eyeing a move for Espanyol forward Javi Puado, as they target alternative options to Son Heung-min amid uncertainties surrounding the 32-year-old’s contract situation.
Meanwhile, Viktoria Plzen midfielder Pavel Sulc is making waves in Europe and is fresh off the back of a 22-goal season last campaign. His stellar form is turning heads at elite sides across the continent, with Man City, Aston Villa, Napoli, Atalanta, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen all monitoring the Czech Republic international.
Tottenham are also targeting Sulc as they attempt to add creativity and dynamism to Postecoglou’s midfield, but he isn’t the only midfielder on their radar, as the Lilywhites still hold a firm interest in Aston Villa starlet Jacob Ramsey.
Tottenham could sign Jacob Ramsey in January after rejected summer bid
As widely reported by reliable news outlets like The Times, Spurs had a £20 million player-plus-cash bid rejected for Ramsey in the summer.
Levy and Lange attempted to offer Giovani Lo Celso as part of the deal – a player who Unai Emery knows well from their time together at Villarreal – but it was no cigar for NSWE and Villa, who turned down their approach.
Now, according to reports out of Spain, Tottenham are eyeing a move for Ramsey again and a potential switch in January could happen. The Englishman’s contract expires in 2027, which apparently means that Villa could be open to potential offers.
Emery’s side won’t be letting him go on the cheap, though, as it is believed they value him at around £50 million.
Following the news that Rodri will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury, Manchester City have reportedly opened talks to sign a replacement for the Spaniard from Italy’s Serie A.
Man City transfer news
The Citizens couldn’t have been handed worse news than Rodri’s long-term injury. The defensive midfielder is the ultimate key behind their success, even ahead of Erling Haaland. Rodri is the man who provides the platform for such attacking exploits. There is arguably no one better in Europe than Rodri in that role, dealing Manchester City a major blow in pursuit of a fifth consecutive Premier League title.

Pep Guardiola confirmed the news that his star man will miss the rest of the season, telling reporters (via Fabrizio Romano): “Unfortunately, Rodri got the worst outcome. He got surgery this morning, ACL and some meniscus. This season is over for Rodri. Next season, he will be here.”
The Premier League champions are already feeling the impact of his injury, dropping points at St James’ Park in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United this weekend, courtesy of Anthony Gordon’s equaliser.
In need of a replacement for Rodri, the Citizens have reportedly turned their attention towards Serie A. According to reports in Spain, Manchester City are already in talks to sign Samuele Ricci from Torino in the January transfer window, as they look towards the 23-year-old to complete the near-impossible task of replicating their star man’s role.

Valued at just €22m (£18m), Manchester City would be getting the bargain of the January window if Ricci managed to seamlessly replace Rodri in Guardiola’s side gunning for yet another title.
"Outstanding" Ricci would ease Rodri blow
Whilst there may not exist a player who would directly replicate Rodri’s quality in this City side, Ricci would at least hand Guardiola a natural option in defensive midfield, and one who has earned a lot of praise. U23 scout Antonio Mango even went as far as dubbing the Torino star “outstanding” in 2023, as he continued an impressive rise for the Italian side.
Working under Guardiola is likely to improve Ricci even further, potentially unearthing a long-term heir to Rodri’s Manchester City throne in both the short and long term.

Although the numbers highlight just how big a miss Rodri will be for Manchester City this season, they also show that Ricci could be one to watch, especially if he gets the chance to work alongside some of Europe’s best under the guidance of Guardiola come January.

Argentine forced off against EaglesWas stretchered from the field in tearsSet for another lengthy spell on the sidelinesFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱GettyWHAT HAPPENED?
The World Cup-winning Argentina international picked up an untimely blow in Premier League action at Old Trafford. Martinez was stretchered from the field in tears following an innocuous-looking tussle with Eagles winger Ismaila Sarr.

According to the , sources believe Martinez is unlikely to play again in 2024-25. United are still assessing the severity of the South American’s injury, with around 24 hours required in order to deliver a definitive diagnosis.
GettyWHAT RUBEN AMORIM SAID
Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim told reporters after seeing Martinez forced out of a demoralising 2-0 defeat for United against Palace: “I think it is a serious situation. A bad situation for us and especially for Licha. I think we are going to see in the next days but I think it is a serious situation.
“It's really hard on us, he's not just a great player but a strong character in the dressing room. Especially in this moment, it's hard for us. Now it is time for all of us to help Licha. He felt it and, when you are a player, you know when it is serious. Let's hope for better days for him. We are here, like I say, to help him in this difficult moment.”

This is not the first serious injury that Martinez has suffered during his time in England. He missed six weeks at the end of the 2022-23 campaign with a fractured metatarsal and was out for four months after undergoing corrective surgery in September 2023. He was also absent for eight weeks across February and March last year with medial ligament damage, before sitting out six-and-a-half weeks with a calf complaint.
Eoin Morgan was nowhere near his fluent best in Sharjah on Monday night. On a slow pitch with low bounce – at least until the dew had its say – he eked out nine runs off the first 20 balls he faced, and his eventual 40 off 36 was his slowest innings above 30 in an England shirt. But it was also his third-highest score in 37 T20 hits this year, and his partnership of 112 with Jos Buttler dragged England to 163, a total they managed to defend in spite of a wet ball and an injury to Tymal Mills. Bearing in mind the demands of conditions during the first innings, England will hope that it signals a long-awaited run to batting form from their captain ahead of the T20 World Cup’s knockout stages.Related

“You sort of always have to believe because if you don’t believe, nobody else will,” Morgan said of his first score above 20 in two-and-a-half months. “I always do. Today was a bit of a tougher test. It was nice to be out there with one of my best mates enjoying ourselves – although it was quite tough – but just to get a partnership going and put something on the board to try and defend.”The guys in the powerplay seemed to hit [the ball] lower on their bat a lot. Even Jos, who’s in unbelievable form, really did find it unbelievably tough and when I got to the wicket he talked about just getting something going. And even he struggled to rotate the strike. So [it was about] taking in all that information and realising how tough it is and believing it will get better or you will get a bad ball, even if you don’t you’re still doing the right thing and trusting the process.”We talked about it being as hard as we’d faced just to get the ball away, never mind looking for boundaries. A normal risk-taking shot would have been sweeps, but we didn’t feel sweeps were on with the guys they were bowling and the way the wicket didn’t really bounce at that time, and we’re thankful that we just hung in and trusted in our experience, even in really quiet overs. You know, [it was] shocking really, but we just had nowhere to go, literally nothing to do, and it was better than just slogging it up in the air.”But it was nice being at the other end when he started getting going: he really is unbelievable. [It was] Jos being Jos. From the far end just watching him battle – not as hard as I did – but just battle, and then find rhythm after he took a couple of risks [which] made Sri Lanka bowl differently and then that worked in our favour. But without that absolutely unbelievable knock we’d have been nowhere.”

Buttler suggested in his post-match press conference that Morgan’s lean run with the bat had been in part due to the volatility of his role as a finisher. “I think the position he bats in, in T20 cricket, forms a bit of a myth,” he said. But Morgan played down any suggestions that he had looked like his old self towards the end of his innings, after carving Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranga for six over wide long-off and hooking Dushmantha Chameera onto the roof.”Me? No, no,” he said. “This ground is very challenging. Maybe if I’d have batted second I might have hit the middle of the bat a bit more but we’ve played games here the last month where coming in, because the ball’s older, a bit darker and the bounce is really low, it’s hard to get going and be free-flowing. Even the guys who came in at the end there felt the same. So the value in that partnership to try and take it longer is obviously worth it as well.”[My acceleration] was after facing a lot of balls and they were due to bowl a bad one. But it’s good, it’s runs on the board, it’s a contribution to winning the game and batting with one of my best mates as well.””I think today he showed an immense amount of character,” Buttler said. “He was very patient. He soaked up balls and gave himself enough time to get us to conditions, and we managed to put together a great partnership. It’s never easy coming in when you’ve lost wickets early on and there’s plenty of the game to go, but I think he certainly enjoyed getting a few out of the middle today and we’re all delighted when we see him play that way.”Myself and Morgs, we’ve played quite a few games now. We just tried to soak up the pressure and build a partnership. We were finding it tricky, and generally if you’re finding it hard work, the guys behind you would probably find it hard work as well, so we didn’t panic; we allowed ourselves time and tried to take the options against the bowlers we felt more comfortable against, and at the nets we felt more comfortable against, with one shorter side on the ground.”England’s win was Morgan’s 43rd as a captain in T20 internationals (including Super Overs), taking him clear of Asghar Afghan’s record, and some rare signs of emotion in the field demonstrated his relief at managing to defend a score in a tournament where that has been a challenge. “I’m absolutely delighted,” he said. “We’re having fun. I might not look like it, but yeah, we are.”
This was Namibia’s highest-successful chase in T20Is and also their maiden win at a World Cup

David Wiese – ‘We would have never dreamed about playing, let alone winning a World Cup match’
Namibia completed their highest-successful chase in a T20I to keep their Super 12 hopes alive and put Netherlands on the brink of an early exit. The Dutch have now lost two group stage matches, have to beat Sri Lanka and hope Ireland win both their remaining games. Namibia, on the other hand, have their fate in their own hands after completing their maiden World Cup win in senior men’s cricket. After conceding 164 runs, a total which could have been lower after a fielding effort filled with fumbles, Namibia stumbled to 52 for 3 in the ninth over and were facing an uphill battle. But a 93-run fourth wicket stand between Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus and David Wiese, which came in 8.3 overs, put Namibia on the brink of victory before Wiese and JJ Smit saw them home. South African of the match There were several candidates to choose from in this fixture but this unique award has to go to Wiese. He turned Namibia’s innings around with a vintage performance that involved clearing the rope five times, all in the ‘V.’ Wiese’s first shot in anger came when he charged Roelof van der Merwe and hit the ball over his head for six, which put Namibia on 68 for 3 at the halfway stage, needing 97 runs off the last 10 overs. Namibia scored 52 runs off the next four overs, and Wiese was responsible for 37 of those. He brought up his first fifty for Namibia off 29 balls with a six over cover point and brought their required run-rate down to just over six runs an over in the last three overs, when they needed 19 runs. Wiese only faced one ball in the final over, and Smit hit the winning runs, but he set the victory up and finished on an unbeaten 66 off 40 balls. Wiese also took the Player of the Match award.Bounced out, slowly Pace off the ball is likely to become the phrase of the tournament, and if you need a visual, look no further than the first two wickets of the Dutch innings. Jan Frylinck delivered a slow-motion bouncer to Stephan Myburgh, who tried to upper-cut him over point, but was earlier on the stroke than he would have liked and lobbed it to Stephan Baard at point. Two overs later, Wiese bowled a short, wide, and slow delivery that van der Merwe tried to cut but ended up slashing high to Bernard Scholtz at third man.Gerhard Erasmus and David Wiese shared a 93-run fourth-wicket partnership•ICC via Getty
Max(imum) number of lives Max O’Dowd brought up a second successive half-century at this tournament, this one laced with leg-side boundaries, but it was not without its fair share of luck. He survived four times against some sloppy Namibian fielding, which could have seen his innings end much earlier. O’Dowd could have been run out in the 11th, when he was on 38, and he pushed a Ruben Trumpelmann delivery to cover and set off for a single, but almost immediately realised it was the wrong decision. He gave up about three-quarters of the way down but the throw missed the stumps. Then, when he was on 46, he hit the ball to extra cover, took off and again realised he was too hasty. O’Dowd was ready to run back to the dug-out but the throw was inaccurate. He brought up his fifty six balls later with an inside-out drive over the covers.O’Dowd entered the last five overs on 65 and sent an aerial shot in the direction of long-off, but the chance fell short. He added two more runs before he got a leading edge off JJ Smit. Baard ran in from the covers and got hands to it but could not hold on. O’Dowd had reached 70 by the last ball of the penultimate over and snuck two byes off a ball that struck him on the leg. He should have been run out at the wicket-keeper’s end but the throw went to the bowler. Eventually O’Dowd was run-out in the last over, chasing a second run but flagging in the heat. He became the first Dutch player to score back-to-back half-centuries at a World Cup.More missed chances, but it doesn’t matter as much The fielding remained messy when Netherlands began their defence. In the third over, Baard punched a ball into the covers and took a single which appeared completely out of the question. van der Merwe rushed his throw that would have run Baard out at the striker’s end and he escaped an early exit. Two overs later, Namibia’s mini-collapse began, when Zane Green dragged an attempted pull onto his stumps off Frank Klaasen. They went on to lose 3 for 18, with Baard the third of those wickets when he missed a flick and was bowled by the Dutch captain Pieter Seelar. But then came the 93-run stand between Erasmus and Wiese to seize the advantage for Namibia once more, and that was that.
Despite a few missteps here and there, Tottenham Hotspur have looked reasonably impressive this season.
Ange Postecoglou has seemingly corrected some of the mistakes his side were consistently making towards the end of last year, but has kept the ultra-attacking style of play that makes them so dangerous.
We saw this against Aston Villa yesterday afternoon, as despite going a goal down in the first half, Spurs fought back and ran out 4-1 winners, showing that when they are on song, few sides can curtail their attacking talent.
Yet, everything can be improved upon, and there’s a Villa star who should be on the top of Daniel Levy’s wishlist next year to reinforce the club’s attacking options, and it’s not Jacob Ramsey.
Spurs' attacking stars
As yesterday’s game made abundantly clear, Tottenham’s biggest strength is their attack, so let’s look at a few of their standout stars.
The first is the man of the moment, Dominic Solanke, who, after a tough few weeks, roared back to life against Villa, scoring two goals and deservedly claiming the Man of the Match award from Sky Sports.
The £65m man now has five goals and two assists to his name in 13 appearances for the Lilywhites, which, for a debut season with a new club, isn’t too bad at all, and based on yesterday, those numbers could soon skyrocket.
Another of the goalscorers from Sunday’s impressive win was Brennan Johnson, who, like Solanke, had a rough start to the season but now has a serious claim to being the North Londoners’ most important player at present.
In his 15 appearances so far, the Welsh international has scored seven goals, meaning he is currently averaging one every 2.14 games, which is undeniably impressive for a winger.
Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson
Lastly, James Maddison also found himself on the scoresheet against Unai Emery’s side, and while he’s endured a mixed tenure in North London thus far, he has been a reliable producer of goal involvements this season.
For example, despite having some off games here and there, the former Leicester City star has racked up an impressive haul of three goals and four assists in 13 appearances, which equates to a goal involvement every 1.85 games.
In all, the North Londoners have an impressive array of attacking talent to choose from, but should they move to sign Villa’s only goalscorer from the weekend, they’d have one more.
Why Spurs should sign Villa's rising star
So, the Villa star in question is the incredibly exciting Morgan Rogers.
Now, Spurs may have been interested in signing the Englishman’s teammate and compatriot Jacob Ramsey over the summer, but should they go back to Villa Park in 2025 looking for recruits, they should drop their previous interest and move to sign Rogers instead.
The Halesowen-born dynamo has been in stupendous form this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists in just 13 appearances, equating to a goal involvement on average every 2.16 games, which is remarkable for a 22-year-old midfielder.
Moreover, the “fearless” phenom, as dubbed by U23 scout Antonio Mango, hasn’t just been performing in the Premier League. He also started all three of the Villans Champions League games this year, picking up one of his assists against Bologna.
There is, however, one small problem with signing the “box-office” midfielder, as dubbed by Sky Sports journalist David Reed, and that is how much he could cost, with former Spurs and Villa manager Tim Sherwood suggesting that the Midlands side could demand up to £80m for their prized asset.

It would represent a significant investment from Levy and Co, but given the 6 foot 2 dynamo’s sensational form this season and the prospect of seeing him play under the tutelage of Postecoglou, one well worth making.
Ultimately, Spurs are a side blessed with attacking talent, but when the transfer window reopens next year, the club should do what they can to add Rogers to their ranks.

The match officials took note of the complaint, which was subsequently reported during and after the game.

Following the match, Mejbri took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the alleged incident, making it clear that he would not remain silent.
He wrote: "I will not be silent about what happened today. I will always call out racism whenever I hear or see it. That is the only way we change as a sport and a society. I am a strong person but nobody should have to experience this disgusting abuse on the pitch."
Burnley FC quickly addressed the situation and expressed their full support for Mejbri.
"Burnley Football Club is aware of an alleged comment made to Hannibal by Milutin Osmajic during our game against Preston North End which was reported to officials both during and after the game," a statement read.

"Milutin Osmajic has strongly refuted the claims of a comment made towards Hannibal Mejbri in a post-match meeting with today's match officials," they confirmed.
Despite the denial, club sources revealed to that a Preston player approached Burnley’s dressing room after full-time to check on Mejbri.
